Honey as we all know is derived from the Honey Bee, and is mainly composed of fructose and glucose along with proteins, amino acids, vitamins, enzymes, minerals, and other minor components. Early civilizations have used Honey in skin care as well as all through the ages. Due to the fact that Honey has anti-bacterial and enzymatic properties that makes it a safe choice for wound healing. In the medicinal field it has uses that go far beyond plain wound healing and that we’ll save for a different blog. I would like to expand on why we use it in the skin care realm.
For Dry, Aging Skin:
Honey is a natural humectant (that means it helps skin retain moisture), as well as it has emollient, soothing and conditioning effects in skin care. It helps skin retain a youthful appearance and retards the formation of wrinkles because of its natural properties. Skin ailments that can benefit from the use of Honey are psoriasis, eczema, and dermatitis due to it is so soothing that it draws in and retains moisture for dry skin.
For Acne Prone or Inflamed Skin:
Honey can also be beneficial in acne prone skin due to its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. This will unclog pores, sooth inflamed skin, and help prevent further acne breakouts without drying like stronger anti-acne preparations. Honey is a wonderful, natural ingredient that we have available to utilize in skin care that is so beneficial.
What Type of Honey:
It is important to note that Raw Honey is the best to use in skin care products as it is full of antioxidants and enzymes, that are not present in pasteurized or heated Honey, making Raw Honey useful in aging skin, avoiding wrinkles, and calming inflamed skin. WARNING: Those that have allergies to Bee’s or Honey should not use products made with Honey as it can cause an allergic reaction.
Wrapping it all up you can see that the little Honey Bee is not a pest, it is actually a beneficial lil bug! We use Raw Thistle Honey in our soap products that have Honey and it is sourced from an Apiary in Michigan. We encourage you to try some of our Goats Milk & Honey Soaps that will soothe your skin.
When we think about taking care of the skin that we’re in, Goats Milk doesn’t usually come to mind. It should. The benefits of Goats Milk in skin care are superior to many other products. First, let me tell you a little about the wonderful ingredients that it contains normally. It is full of Vitamins, particularly high in Vitamin A, which is necessary for your body to repair damaged skin tissue. Studies have shown that Vitamin A in facial soaps and creams can actually reduce wrinkles and lines, control acne, and help to provide relief from psoriasis. Goats Milk is also rich in Niacin and other B Vitamins, such as Thiamine and B6. These vitamins can protect against sun damage and promote healthy skin growth. The fact that Goats Milk has a high fat content allows it to easily be absorbed in the lipid layer in our skin.
Goats Milk is also rich in alpha hydroxy acids such as lactic acid. These AHA are beneficial in removing dead skin cells from the skins surface. A gentle exfoliation of skin cells by AHA reveals fresher, smoother cells that are healthier and appear younger. Alpha Hydroxy Acids work by breaking down the bonds that hold dead skin cells together. When these dead skin cells are allowed to remain on the face or skin they make it appear dull, flaky, and at times irritated. This is one super benefit of Goats Milk in skin care.
Goats Milk is full of fat molecules (cream) that boosts the moisturizing quality of Goats Milk soap. A majority of people suffer with dry skin and/or irritated skin at any given time, particularly in the winter months or in hot, sunny climes. The cream in Goats Milk helps to seal in the moisture, leaving your skin softer, smoother, and less irritated. This is the ideal way healthy skin should be.
The minerals that are in Goats Milk soap also help with the skin you’re in. It contains magnesium which calms skin, and will produce skin cell turnover that can help with acne prone skin. Goats Milk is also rich in Selenium and Potassium, and although you cannot absorb Potassium through your skin for any benefit it does seem to have a calming effect on skin. Selenium available in Goats Milk is believed to prevent damage to the skin from too much time in the sun, therefore reducing the risk of skin cancers.
So wrapping up what we just learned regarding the benefits of Goats Milk in skin care; it moisturizes and maintains healthy skin, it gently exfoliates, it calms irritated skin, and can possibly prevent skin cancers. Treat yourself today and take care of the skin that you’re in!

Aloe Vera is a thick stemmed succulent plant that has been around for thousands of years. It has a gelatinous material in the leaves and it is this gel like substance that contains all the bio-active materials including vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and antioxidants.
This gel material within its leaves are what we use in cosmetics, bath & body care, etc. It contains powerful antioxidants known as polyphenols and these help to inhibit bacterial growth that can bring infections to us.
There is also evidence that it can prohibit early aging and wrinkling by increasing collagen production and improving skin elasticity. Aloe Vera is used also on skin that is irritated or sunburned. You should never use it on an open wound but I’m sure you already knew that. It is useful for calming psoriasis, dandruff, and seborrhea on the scalp. On the face it soothes acne prone skin as it has anti-inflammatory properties.
In summation, Aloe Vera has antibacterial, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory properties which make it so beneficial in taking care of the skin we are in. It is also rich in Vitamins, particularly A, C, E, B12, and Choline. Aloe Vera has antioxidants that contain polyphenols and this benefits us by prohibiting bacterial growth. It promotes collagen production and therefore slows the aging process of our skin. Now you know why we use it in our bath and body care lines.
